Gil Wright & Associates is the longest established, specialist Business Brokerage and Business Valuation office in Queensland. Gil Wright is the Licensed Director. He has been a practicing Business Broker since 1975 and obtained his Real Estate Agents Licence in 1979. He has been a member of the REIQ since 1980 and joined the International Business Brokers Association in 1997.

Gil Wright & Associates is engaged by Departments, Authorities and Semi Government Departments within the Federal, State and Local Government and Semi-Government Bodies including Australia Post, The Department of Transport, Queensland Rail, Department of Natural Resources (Lands Department), Machine Gaming Division of Queensland Treasury, Commonwealth Legal Aid, Brisbane City Council/Brisbane City Legal Practice, Redlands Shire Council, Southbank Corporation (Expo Authority) etc), for business market valuations/appraisals and feasibility studies.

Gil Wright is a Foundation Member and from March 1990 to October 2000, was Chairman of the Business Brokers Chapter of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.

In July 1995, Gil Wright was elected as the first Chairman of the Formation Committee of the Australian Business Brokers and Valuers Association (ABBVA), and was re-elected Chairman in 1997 and 1999. He attended and addressed the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) Education Conference as the Australian representative in November 1997 in San Diego, USA.

On 12-13 November 1999, Gil Wright conducted four lectures and workshops on "Developing and Using a Support Database for Business Valuation" and "High Volume Business Brokerage", at the International Business Brokers Association’s 30th Conference & Educational Program in Las Vegas, USA. In August 1999, Gil Wright delivered the Business Valuation Methodology lecture at the Education Conference of the Business Brokers Division of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand in Auckland.

In June 2000, Gil Wright addressed the inaugural Education Conference of the Business Brokers Chapter of the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW). Throughout 1999 and 2000, Gil Wright addressed Small Business Seminars organised by the Queensland Department of State Development at Surfers Paradise, Ipswich and Oxley, on Business Viability and Business Valuation.

Gil Wright lectures to members of the REIQ on Business Brokerage Practices and Business Market Valuation and Appraisal and from time to time lectures at TAFE courses on Small Business Management and Business Valuation. He has also lectured to other professional bodies such as The Australian Society of CPA’s and the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants on Business Valuation and Business Brokerage Practice.

He delivered the Business and Hotel Valuation lectures in the Specialist Valuation Unit of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Property Economics Degree in 1998, 1999 and 2000, at the Queensland University of Technology.

The REIQ and major Real Estate Franchisors (eg. Ray White) engage Gil to conduct seminars on the Principles and Practices of Business Brokerage and Business Valuation throughout Queensland.

Further, Gil in conjunction with the REIQ, has produced a series of Educational Videos on Business Valuation including "Valuing a Business", and "Valuing a Rent Roll" which have been purchased by other Real Estate Institutes within Australia. The REIQ also publishes educational articles by Gil on the abovementioned subjects in the REIQ monthly journal.

In summary, Gil Wright has addressed business seminars and conferences conducted by the following organisations/groups:

Australian Businesses for Sale, a nationally distributed Business Brokerage publication, also publishes Gil’s educational articles on Business Brokerage and Valuation practices. Further, the Queensland Small Business Corporation published his articles in the State of Queensland annual publication.

He has also been appointed by the President of the Law Society of Queensland, as an independent Business Valuer, for dispute resolution. He has been accepted as an expert witness on business practice and business valuation related matters at various arbitration’s, the Retail Shop Leases Tribunal, Land Court, Magistrates Court, District Court, Family Law Court, Supreme Court and the Federal Court.

Gil Wright & Associates is engaged by both International and National organisations for the acquisition of market opportunities and market share growth and operates in most fields of Business Brokerage. Gil Wright & Associates has a data base which enables business market valuations and appraisals to be undertaken on most types of businesses and professional practices within the Commercial cycle. The firm holds the largest data base of business listings and business sales (since 1975), in Queensland and probably in Australia. Evidence from this data base was accepted and adopted by the Federal Court of Australia and the Full Bench of the Federal Appeal Court of Australia in 1999.

Prior to becoming a practicing Business Broker, Gil Wright held the following positions over a commercial career of fourteen years:-

In addition Gil Wright and partners/associates have owned and operated many small businesses in Queensland including Property Development/Subdivision Companies, Aboriginal Art Distribution, Child Care Centres, Sport Centres, Real Estate Agencies and Business Brokerage/Valuation Practices, Muffler Shops, Fruit Shops, Cake Shops etc. Family business interests since 1949 have included wholesale and retail clothing, Cash and Carry grocery stores, supermarkets, motels and hotels, fruit shops and convenience stores.

Gil Wright is a life member of the Queensland Professional Child Care Centres Association and was Q.P.C.C.A President for several years in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.He has represented the Queensland Branch of the Early Childhood Association and the Q.P.C.C.A. at state and federal conferences and has been on the review panel of the Child Care Act and the Child Care Centres Regulations.
